Overview of The Engine Working Groups Effort
Objectives
MIT has established a set of working groups in order to guide the development of policies and simplified procedures surrounding the following topics, specifically as they relate to MIT’s launch of The Engine:
- Access to MIT equipment and facilities;
- New models for technology licensing;
- Conflict of interest;
- Enabling visas for MIT entrepreneurs; and
- MIT’s innovation ecosystem
Overall Framework
Five working groups comprised of key contributors with specialized expertise will provide recommendations to The Engine Advisory Committee chaired by Anantha P. Chandrakasan, Vannevar Bush Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). The Committee will evaluate and elevate endorsed recommendations regarding new and modified policies and procedures to the Provost, Executive Vice President and Treasurer and Vice President for Research for approval and implementation.
Timeline and Process
Working groups began convening in December and will complete their work in April. There will be ongoing interactions between the working groups and the Advisory Committee so that recommendations and solutions can be reviewed and brought forward for implementation on an ongoing basis.
